Chelsea fans got their first taste of the Maurizio Sarri era on Monday afternoon, with the Blues playing Perth Glory in Australia.
There were positive signs for the west Londoners as they attempted to implement Sarriball, with summer signing Jorginho impressing at the base of the midfield, and Pedro looking to have found a new lease of life in attack.
However, no one caught the eye as much as Callum Hudson-Odoi, the teenage forward.
Rated as the best player in Chelsea’s academy, Hudson-Odoi, 17, made four appearances under Antonio Conte last season, and he would certainly have done his chances of being a first-team player this term no harm.
Playing down the left flank for the opening 45 minutes, the England youth international terrorised Perth’s right-back time and time again with some truly superb runs.
His incredible footwork caught the eye when he successfully beat opponents with brilliant close control, and it was one such turn that led to the opening goal; Hudson-Odoi fooled a defender and created acres of space for himself with a neat cut-back, giving him time to cross the ball into the area for Pedro to prod a first-time finish into the back of the net.
Chelsea fans have been excited about Hudson-Odoi for a long, long time, and seeing him impress so highly – even if it is pre-season – led to some brilliant reactions on social media.
