The 22-year-old has left his team-mates to fly home
Manchester United’s wantaway forward has come home early from Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the USA to be with his girlfriend for the birth of their baby son.
The 22-year-old asked manager Jose Mourinho for special permission to cut short his involvement in the club’s tour on Tuesday night and has flown home from Los Angeles to be with his partner Melanie Da Cruz, The Mail report.
It is unfortunate timing for the boss, who is already missing key members of his first team on a tour that has produced two draws.
“We are not a team. We’re a group of players from different teams,” he said after the 0-0 draw with San Jose Earthquakes. “Some are first-team, some under-23s, some coming from loans and going on loan, some are younger, under-18s. We don’t have a team to play much better than we did but (it’s) one more training session.”
In June, Martial’s agent, Philippe Lamboley was quoted as saying: “After thinking about all the possibilities, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United.
“When Manchester United, which is the most powerful club in the world, does not find an agreement in eight months of negotiations, it is that it does not really want to make it (Martial) an important player.
“It is a well-considered decision. He is under contract, United will have the last word and we will respect the decision of the club, it will go to the end of its commitment.
“We do not have the same vision on Anthony’s future. Without the unconditional support of the fans, Anthony would have already asked to leave United.”
It is understood United are willing to sell the wantaway forward, who has a year left on his current contract, but would prefer to see him move abroad.
Tottenham and Chelsea are both said to be interested in bringing him to London, with Bayern Munich also linked.
