The France Under-20 midfielder signed for the Gunners earlier this month, and he’s caught the eye in pre-season
It’s shaping up to be a rather exciting season for those involved with Arsenal.
The north London club have a new manager for the first time in 22 years, and Unai Emery has moved quickly in the transfer market to strengthen a playing squad that was, under Arsene Wenger, by far the weakest in the top six.
The signings of Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira were all completed to improve Arsenal’s first-team, but, if pre-season is anything to go by, it could be a different summer arrival who makes the biggest impact at the Emirates this season.
Matteo Guendouzi, the France Under-20 midfielder, was brought to north London from Lorient with the expectation he would take a place in Arsenal’s Under-23 team.
However, he has caught the eye in pre-season, leading to suggestions there may be a role for the youngster in Unai Emery’s first-team.
One of Guendouzi’s best performances came on Thursday afternoon, when he started and played 75 minutes of Arsenal’s International Champions Cup match against Atletico Madrid.
The 19-year-old showed off his talents at the base of the north Londoners’ midfield, and his performance was widely praised on social media.
We collected some of the best reaction to Guendouzi’s showing, and you can see the tweets below…
