Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the 48-year-old, who made his name as Sevilla’s sporting director
Manchester United are interested in hiring Monchi, the Roma director of football, according to reports.
The Red Devils are, along with La Liga champions Barcelona, said to be on the lookout for a new sporting director to help in the transfer market, and Monchi is a prime target as he’s regarded as one of the finest in the industry.
In 17 years with Sevilla Monchi, full name Ramon Rodríguez Verdejo, helped the club establish themselves in the top half of La Liga, win 11 trophies, and make a profit of almost £180million (€200m). He is credited with discovering the likes of Jesus Navas, Sergio Ramos and Jose Reyes, and also making huge profits on the sales of Dani Alves, Seydou Keita and Ivan Rakitic – all of whom moved from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to Barcelona.
The 49-year-old is now in the same role at Roma and he has continued to earn rave reviews.
And, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Monchi is now wanted by both Barcelona and Manchester United.
It is unlikely a move will come about quickly, though Monchi has warned Roma he will leave unless the Giallorossi start to be successfull on the pitch.
