The Frenchman has been out of favour this season and isn’t keen on signing a new deal at the moment

Anthony Martial is delaying signing a new contract at Manchester United until Jose Mourinho’s future is clearer.

The French forward fell out with his manager during pre-season training in America where, after being given permission to fly home for the birth of his child, failed to return and subsequently earned himself a £180,000 fine.

Martial’s only appearance this season has been in the 3-2 defeat against Brighton when team-mate Alexis Sanchez was injured. To rub salt in his wounds, the 22-year-old was substituted on the hour mark.

The attacker has been talking to the club since May about extending his deal beyond the end of the campaign until 2020.

However, since the arrival of Sanchez in January, the player has fallen out of favour and is reluctant to commit his long term future to the club until his boss’ future is clearer, according to The Sun.

He is hoping to outstay Mourinho, who has a history of leaving clubs after three seasons.

The 55-year-old has been under intense scrutiny this season after back-to-back losses against Brighton and Tottenham earlier in the campaign. His side currently sit in tenth place after four games, six points behind Liverpool, Chelsea and surprise package Watford.

Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, is keen to keep hold of Martial, who was signed for £57.6million from Monaco in 2015.

If Martial fails to sign a contract his value will undoubtedly fall, which will be terrible business for Manchester United.
