And it was good news for the Brazilian as a hospital examination confirmed an abrasion of the eye but there will be no lasting damage.

It is not known whether Firmino will be available for Liverpool’s Champions League match at home to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, however.

Before sustaining the injury, Firmino scored what prove to be the decisive goal of the game as he tapped home a loose ball virtually on the goalline to put Liverpool 2-0 up.

His display earned a great deal of praise from these Reds fans on Twitter as Jurgen Klopp’s men continued their perfect start to the 2018/19 season.
