Former Tottenham goal machine Clive Allen admits Harry Kane has looked ‘flat and a little tired’ in recent games.
However, he insists it won’t be long before the striker is firing on all cylinders again.
Kane has scored two goals for Spurs this season, but has now gone four matches for club and country without finding the net – most recently drawing a blank in a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Wembley.
Despite already getting off the mark this season, breaking his August hoodoo with a goal against Fulham, overall he has looked tired and without his usual sharpness.
There have been suggestions the striker should be dropped by Mauricio Pochettino in a bid to give him some much-needed rest to rediscover his form.
The player himself has fiercely denied he is suffering from World Cup burnout, while the Spurs manager has stated he would be ‘crazy’ to drop his star man from the starting XI.
Speaking on Monday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Allen said: “Historically he’s a slow starter to the season, he doesn’t usually have a prolific start. He’s scored a few goals which, for Harry, is unusual at the start of the season.
“But he looks flat, he does looks a little tired.
“I think we’ve got to remember he’s been playing full-on now for three seasons. He’s had very few breaks, if any, and the only time he’s had breaks is when he’s been injured.
“The last break he’s had was the injury at the end of last season, and it’s going to take its toll.
“Humanly it’s not possible to produce consistently at the level he’s produced for Spurs throughout a whole campaign.
“He looks flat at the moment and he doesn’t carry the threat we know Harry Kane is, but he’ll come good again, I’ve no doubt about that.”
