Manchester United are in danger of missing out on Roma’s transfer guru Monchi because his family wants to return to Spain.
The 49-year-old has been working as the club’s director of football since 2017.
Prior to that, the Spaniard had forged his reputation at Sevilla in a similar role.
At the Liga side, Monchi was instrumental in signing Dani Alves and Ivan Rakitic, while he also developed the club’s youth stars such as Jose Antonio Reyes and Sergio Ramos.
His work led to Roma hiring him and now Barcelona and Manchester United are tracking him, too.
Both clubs want help negotiating the transfer market and Monchi is the man they want to hire.
But, according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Barcelona have the upper hand as Monchi’s family want to return to Spain.
That has left Manchester United playing catch up in the race to hire him and it would reportedly take a huge offer to change that.
