The 19-year-old is one of many youngsters to have earned a spot in Gareth Southgate’s latest squad
Mason Mount has been rewarded for his fine start to life at Derby by earning his first ever call-up to the England squad.
Mount, the midfielder, joined the Rams on a season-long loan from Chelsea over the summer, and has so far netted five goals in just 14 games for Frank Lampard’s promotion chasers.
He caught the eye in Derby’s shock defeat of Manchester United in the Carabao Cup third round, and has made the step up to Gareth Southgate’s senior England squad despite only making his Under-21 debut last month.
The 19-year-old becomes the first outfield player to receive a senior England call-up whilst playing for a Championship side since Wilfried Zaha, of Crystal Palace, in 2012.
Mount has still never made a senior appearance for Chelsea, his parent club, but hopes have been high for the midfielder for a long time. He excelled while playing on loan at Vitesse last season, and has been tipped to establish himself as a key player for the Blues over the coming years.
But right now, Mount has a better chance establishing himself with England than with Chelsea, and his call-up had fans delighted across social media.
