The Brazilian was imperious during the Reds’ 4-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade, crashing into challenges like Javier Mascherano and spraying long balls like Steven Gerrard.
It was a Champions League night to savour for Liverpool fans: Mo Salah struck either side of the break after Roberto Firmino opened the scoring, and Sadio Mane rounded things off to send the Reds top of Group C.
But, despite Salah grabbing his 50th goal for the club, it was the Anfield newbies who stole the show.
Xherdan Shaqiri delighted the crowd with some exquisite touches, creating his team’s first two goals, while Fabinho provided something many feel the club has lacked in recent years.
Reds skipper Jordan Henderson was ruled out of the match with a tight hamstring, and he may struggle to regain his place after such a majestic performance from his midfield colleague.
