Taylor, born in Wythenshawe, south Manchester, is set to officiate the huge clash at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester United and Man City fans have been reacting on social media after Anthony Taylor was confirmed as the referee for Sunday’s derby.
As always there is plenty of talk surrounding the clash but there with be further scrutiny now the identity of the official is known.
Taylor was born in Wythenshawe, south Manchester, and despite being pictured supporting Altrincham FC, many City fans claim he and his family are fans of Man United.
A FIFA listed official since 2013, marking him out as one of the best in England, Taylor is forced by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to declare who he supports, as are all other officials.
But this hasn’t stopped fans putting together conspiracy theories about his appointment by the PGMOL, with both sets of fan bases reacting on Twitter, as you can see below.
